Americans who came of age in the Cold War had little, if any, use for Russia or the USSR. It was the constant, existential enemy. Movies were made, novels written, speeches given, politicians elected, newsletters shared on the threat of communism. Trillions of tax dollars were consumed by government to protect us and our allies from their lethal, anti-human ideology.
Everything we disliked about Russia then is rising in America now.
We’ve substituted Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iraq for Angola. Our NatSec State + BigTech can beat the KGB any day of the week in suppressing speech, content, protests. We can put into District of Corruption jails more political prisoners on one January day than Lubyanka likely can hold. The KGB once used umbrellas to stab a bit of polonium into individuals the State disliked, killing one; America drones them, killing everyone in the blast radius.
The Joy of Communism has replaced The Joy of Sex in our culture of declining fertility, education, prosperity, courtesy, families, happiness, community.
The change is coming full circle: Russia is building a suburb for Americans who want to escape the spreading, all-consuming blob of Woke theocracy.
The Inquisition has arrived. Russia is providing a refuge.
Americans (and Canadians) who are not at all interested in living next door to sexual mutilators sterilizing their children while teaching them the wonder of 57 genders, the loveliness of MS13 bangers in our neighborhoods, seeing daily that Black Lives Matters means accepting that Blacks seem unable to stop beating and murdering one another wherever they gather, and watching the appallingly shameful hopelessness of unaddressed homelessness that is destroying our once-beautiful cities and once-productive citizens as we spend tax dollars we don’t have to import illegal aliens while throwing out of hotels our own homeless veterans.
It seems that only two national leaders are placing their own people above the globalists, are fighting-back against the WEF and the climate, gender, Covid insanity of “stakeholder capitalism” that is nothing other than re-branded fascism: Hungary’s Orban and Russia’s Putin.
Who among us ever entertained the thought that freedom would be killed by the American government, only to rise in the former Soviet Union?
Is Russia perfect? No. Is Putin a thug? Sure. Is Orban authoritarian? Probably - but doubtless less-so than Biden’s woke junta, BigTech, NGOs, BigEd, WHO and the Pharmafia.
If you had to bet on a trend toward being left alone - what would that bet be…?
The West is moving East.
